Wisconsin Cheese Processor

Gains 5.76% in MF Protein Yield, Rolls Solecta Out Plant-Wide.

MF Protein Yield: 80.52% → 85.16%

People

The facility was able to expand capacity without increasing labor at the plant.

Planet

By reducing operating pressure, the client was able to reduce energy consumption from their feed pumps.

Profit

The plant was able to increase both efficiency and production in the same footprint. This improved both top and bottom lines with minimal additional capital or operational interruptions.

Three parallel MF trains running the same whey feed should have produced the same output, but yields were varying across trains. Nearly 100,000 lbs of protein per year were being lost on a single MF train, and the plant had no direct way to isolate whether the losses were coming from the membranes or somewhere else in the process.

The Solution

Solecta supplied PV0.3M microfiltration membranes and ran a controlled side-by-side evaluation over a full quarter, one train against two incumbents, all on the same feed. No custom configuration, no process redesign, and no capital project attached.

The Overall Impact

A single-train swap produced a 5.76% yield gain and paid for itself in about ten days. The plant then rolled the same configuration across all three parallel MF trains.
